A total of 300 universities from Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Africa are represented in the rating published by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), 68 of which are Russian.

In the rating also appear 94 Chinese universities, 61 Brazilian, 65 Indian and 12 universities in South Africa.

Moscow State University entered the top-5 ranking, finishing 5th. In the first position (for the fifth time in a row) is the Chinese Tsinghua University. Then follow the Peking University, Fudan University and the University of Science and Technology of China.

In the top 50 rankings there are 10 Russian universities: Novosibirsk State University - at the 11th position, St. Petersburg State University - at the 13th position, Tomsk State University - on the 26th, Moscow physicotechnical - on the 28th , Moscow State Technical University named after E.N. Bauman - on the 33rd, the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI" - on the 35th, the Higher School of Economics - on the 39th, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations - at the 40th and Tomsk Polytechnic University - on the 49th.

The ranking of universities was carried out according to eight criteria: academic reputation, reputation among employers, the ratio of teaching staff to the number of students, the citation index and the proportion of scientific articles on the teacher, as well as the proportion of foreign teachers, foreign students and teachers with a scientific degree.

- It is gratifying to note that the national higher school is gaining more and more weighty positions in the world educational space, attracting active attention both from the student and scientific community and from the leading Western rating agencies. In the hundred best universities of the next ranking of the BRICS countries according to the QS version, only in the last year we increased our representation from 19 to 25 universities, and each of the universities improved its individual positions. The work on the development and dissemination of Russian higher education will be continued both within the framework of the priority project "Universities as centers of innovation creation space" and within the framework of the priority project launched this year "Development of the export potential of the Russian education system," the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation O.Yu.
