PFUR Medical Institute was founded in 1961 and currently consists of 43 departments and 2 independent courses that enrolled more than 2,300 students.

PFUR is the basic institution of the CIS Network university (26 universities from 9 countries) and the Network University of the SCO - Shanghai Cooperation Organization (75 universities from 5 countries of the SCO). In 2010, PFUR was awarded the UNESCO Gold Medal for its contribution to the training of personnel for the developing countries of the world.

PFUR is the leader among all the Russian universities both in the number of Master's programs in English (more than 30), and the joint Master's programs (them - more than 100) with leading universities around the world, allowing students to simultaneously receive two diplomas: People's Friendship University and one of the 106 partner universities.
