Kirov State Medical Academy was founded in 1987. In 2011, the Academy received a perpetual license for educational activity. 47 departments are working in the university, which are grouped into 4 faculties.In the academy educate both Russians and foreigners.

Today Kirov State Medical Academy - a modern, dynamically developing academy. successfully integrates scientific, educational and medical activities.

The academy formed known scientific schools in the country: Rheumatology (Professor B.F.Nemtsova), surgery (Professors V. Zhuravlev and Vladimir Bakhtin), pediatrics (Professor YY Illeka), obstetrics and gynecology (Professor SA Noble), social medicine, medical ecology and health (Professor BA Petrov), neurology and neurosurgery (Professor BN Bane). In 2005, VA Zhuravlev, who has spearheaded the creation of the Kirov Medical Academy, Honored Scientist of Russia, Honored doctor, winner of prestigious international awards, honorary citizen of the Kirov region, corresponding member of the Academy of Medical Sciences has been awarded the title "Honorary Rector of the Kirov State Medical Academy."

The Academy trained students from various regions of Russia and other countries: Sudan, Mongolia, Vietnam, Syria, Pakistan, Peru, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine.
