YSMU history began in 1944, Based on the basis of the Belarusian Medical University evacuated during the Great Patriotic War. Today YSMU training takes place on all levels of education.
Today Yaroslavl State Medical University - a multidisciplinary university, which makes training, as well as professional retraining and advanced training of doctors and pharmacists, one of the most important scientific centers in which conducts fundamental and applied research. Much attention is paid to the establishment of information technology development and innovation.
In Yaroslavl State Medical University, there are 6 faculties. In the departments made training in 7 fields of higher education (undergraduate and specialty) and 2 field of vocational education, as well as the Institute of Postgraduate Education with two faculties.
The university has 59 departments, where more than 530 teachers work. Of these, more than 100 doctors of sciences and 370 candidates of sciences, including academician, Honored Scientist, Honored workers of Higher Education, Honored doctors, honored health workers, culture, physical culture and sports of the Russian Federation.
The University has a license for educational activity and the certificate of state accreditation of the Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science.
In 8 educational buildings of the University there are modern educational auditoriums and laboratories, 13 computer classes, the fundamental library with more than 500,000 books, administrative units. The work of clinical departments is carried out in the basic city and regional medical and pharmaceutical organizations on the basis of agreements on joint activities. To prepare pharmacists, the University has a modern educational and production pharmacy and a nursery of medicinal plants "Skobykino". The social base of the university includes 5 dormitories, canteens for staff and students , educational and sports building.
Currently, the university has over 4,000 students, interns, residents and graduate students, including foreign nationals.
