QS World University Rankings is published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British company specializing in education and training abroad (the company was founded in 1990). The international rating of universities QS World University Rankings (QS) was first published in November 2004 under the united brand THE-QS. Since 2010, the QS rating is published independently. QS adopted the methodology of the joint rating THE-QS. QS, in order to obtain the necessary information in the rating, cooperates with Elsevier and, accordingly, with the Scopus database.

The international rating of universities QS World University Rankings is one of the most authoritative university ratings.
In addition to the world rating, QS publishes a rating of universities under 50, subject and industry ratings, regional ratings: the ratings of the "Arab region", "Asia", "Latin America", "BRICS", Emerging Europe and Central Asia, (QS Graduate Employability Ranking), the rating of the best student cities, the rating of national education systems.

In 2013, the published part of the rating contained 833 universities, in 2014 - 863, in 2015 - 891, in 2016 - 916, in 2017 - 959.
